Got caught in the floods yesterday?

Yesterday, there was so much rain and traffic that it took 3-9 hours for people to get home from work or school. Normally, Jakarta has tons of traffic, but add rain to it and its the recipe for disaster. People who had volleyball practice yesterday that took the late buses at 5:00 pm reached their houses at 12:15 am. GAAAHHH!
My dad was in a gridlock for 3 1/2 hours at Fatmawati and had to stop at KFC for dinner, but it didn't matter though because the car was frozen in one spot so he could go inside. haha. My friend who lives in Bintaro was stuck in traffic so bad, she got out of her car, walked home, and beat the driver by 2 1/2 hours. Ouch.

Strangely for me, I left normal time and I got home in 15 minutes :D

BIS Track Meet

Track and Field Season is overrr!!
BOOO!! I LOVE TRACK AND FIELD!!

We went to BIS for the final meet of the season. We left JIS at 7:15 and it took us about 40 minutes to get there, and when we did, it didn't start until about 8:30 GAAAHH! I HATE WAITING!! PLUS we could only do one or two events! ANNOYING!

Since it rained last night, it was really slippery (grass track UGH) and there were mud pits everywhere! We couldn't walk across the "track" without getting our feet stuck in mud. Oh well.

Our relay team (Lieke, Eddie, Nicole, and Me) got first place YAY! Mrs. Whitley made a typo on the event lists and replaced Nicole with Nora (oi). I was the 3rd runner and I got our team into first place position GO ME! But we all ran shorter distances because one lap is 300 meters, so the relays were 4x75 instead of 4x100.

I also did shotput (originally i wasn't supposed to do it, but I was replacing SeiYon Lee because she didn't show up) and got first place (7.31 meters) but I think the shots were 1 kg heavier than we are used to so I threw one meter shorter than normal. But I don't know.

All in all, I think I wasted a morning at BIS.

SOB SOB SOB WHY DID YOU HAVE TO LEAVE!? It was so fun last year! I miss it sooo bad! Don't get me wrong, I really like 7th grade, but 6th grade, teacher wise, was the best. I CANT EVEN SMELL SCENTED CANDLES ANYMORE WITHOUT THINKING ABOUT LAST YEAR!! I have to agree with Maria. Last year it was so simple. Same teachers for cores. Same friends. This year they decide to mix it all up! Its ANNOYING!

The Giver - Lie VS. Ask Any Question

I would ask any question and get a truthfull answer because I guess you could lie all you want, but it wouldn't really get you anywhere. The question-asking thing could turn out a little bit offensive if you ask too many, but you are allowed to be rude, according to the rules. O_o

I think that I would use the question-asking-and-truthful-answer thing on my parents first. Only because they are always talking sort of 'behind my backs' and when we ask them what they are talking about, they tell me to "Go away!" or "You'll find out soon enough" or "I'll tell you later" and...it kind of gets on my nerves :) so yeah, I'd find out the answers of that. Then I would bother my friends with the traditional "Who do you like?" HAHAHA

Pond's Pore-Cleaning Strips

I find this ad to be very creative and worthy of the CLIO Awards to recognize. This is an ad for Pond's pore cleaning strips and I think that they are trying to tell you that the strips will clean you pores and make them look "invisible". It's target audience is probably teen girls.

• Symbolism - Symbolism is using a picture or object to describe something else in the ad. In this ad, they chose the comic character to represent us and the dots to represent her pores.
• Body Language - Body language is how the person is acting in the ad. In this ad, she looks like the model is enjoying her "cleaner skin". 
• Camera Angle - Camera angle is how the camera is angled in the ad. The camera is about eye level near the model's face.
• Special Affects - Special effects are the things in the ad that make it look special. There aren't any special effects in this ad.
• Lighting and Color - Lighting and Color is the way the light and color is distributed in the ad. They really made the model's nose stand out because its the only white in the picture and have focused the most light on it in the ad.
• Beauty and Social Standing - Beauty and Social Standing is what the model(s) look like and what place they could have in society. The model looks very pretty and has the kind of attitude like a snob (no offense lady).
• Layout and Graphics - Layout and Graphics is the way the objects in the ad are placed. The model's high point (clean nose) is in the middle where everyone could see it. The logo is a of near the top, though, where it might be a little bit harder to see from the street.

Now that I think of it, it was probably a little more than embarrassing for me to up on stage and dance THAT MANY TIMES. :| I've heard people saying that I should date Yohannes because we dance pretty much the same (a lot of people didn't know I could dance until Thursday). :) I had to slow-dance with Lucas :| I have a feeling he was one of the only people brave enough to come up to me and actually ask me to dance (for the 2nd time that week :P) Other people are too scared (Nick "Gomez" said that I looked like I came out of a Disturbia - Rihanna music video :( so very encouraging).

Panem, is a city that rose out of the ashes of North America, is divided into 12 districts, each with its own special job to serve the Capitol. The Capitol picks 2 children, 1 boy and 1 girl,from each district to compete in the annual Hunger Games, a televised "sport" of 24 children fighting each other to the death, ending up with 1 victor. The victors district gets all of the good food and provisions for 1 year, while the other districts starve. 

Katniss Everdeen, is an independent hunter who goes out daily into the woods with her good friend Gale, also from her district. Nothing overly romantic has gone on between them, but still have strong feelings for each other. But when Prim, Katniss's younger sister,  has  her name chosen to be in the Hunger Games, Katniss takes her place. Joining up with Peeta Mellark, a 17-year-old friend of hers, they journey together to the Capitol. Remembering not to become to attached to Peeta (for she has to kill him), they train together. But during the interviews, Peeta drops the bomb. He announces to the crowd that he is and has been IN LOVE with Katniss. Now Katniss and Peeta can no longer avoid each other, for they have to act as star-crossed lovers for the viewers. They journey through the Hunger Games in "love" (includes lots of kissing and stuff) and both win. But the capitol is furious with Katniss because she used something illegal. Will she stay alive long enough to celebrate? And what will she tell Gale?

My favorite part of this book is when Peeta and Katniss are bunking in a cave in the ongoing downpour. Peeta has been injured by one of the other tributes poisonous knives, and is wounded terribly. Katniss's mother is the districts healer, but that doesn't mean Katniss is. She is so terribly scared when she pushes the EpiPen into Peeta's shoulder that she passes out. Katniss wakes up to find Peeta (and the wound) better and herself in love (not for show). This book is really fantastic. I'm so glad that Mr. Hughes suggested we took it home. I am currently reading the 2nd book and am almost finished! I just CAN'T WAIT for the 3rd!!!

6 Elements Of A Mystery

Villain
The villain is the person in the mystery or WhoDunIt who commits the crime. They usually wear disguises when in public.

Crime
A crime is something that is in every mystery story (if it weren't, it would be pretty pathetic). The crime is usually murder.

Victim
The person who the crime affects. The victim usually gets injured (could be mentally, physically, or socially) because of the crime.

Detective
The detective, inspector, sleuth, ect. is the person who figures out the crime. They are usually appointed by the government, but can sometimes be hired.

Evidence
Evidence is a bit like clues, but are real, where as clues are more like ideas. Evidence is usually found at the crime scene.

Witness
A witness is a person who has seen the crime happen. The usually go into questioning by the police or judge for information about the crime.

Monk - The Voodoo Curse

What are the odds of dying from being hit by a baseball if you've survived cancer twice? Dying from a lightning strike while playing golf? Dying of a heart attack while taking a medicine PREVENTING a heart attack? Not very likely. Until now.

Voodoo Doll

Natalie and Mr. Monk are on the case. Left randomly in the homes of the recently dead, are small boxes with no return address. Placed inside, are carefully customized voodoo dolls with the victims name printed on a banner. The dolls all have a hint of what's going to happen to the reciever such as:

- a lightning bolt through the head

- a baseball attached to the head

- a heart that's ripped

The strange thing is the boxes have all been delievered to the victims a week before their prescribed death.

Natalie strongly believes in voodoo and tries to prevent Mr. Monk from working on the case, out of fear that some thing bad is going to happen. Mr. Monk visits the only exsisting voodoo seller in the city, Reverend Jorgenson, but he explains that he was in his shop at each of the victims deaths, so he couldn't be the villian.

The last victim is a rich man who died of a heart attack in his home. His niece, Angeline, said that he was a very superstitious person, which explained why there were a lot of good luck charms strategically placed around his house. But Mr. Monk notices the horseshoe above the door is upside down, bringing, supposedly, bad luck. Angeline claims to be a paramedic, who Mr. Monk recalls was at all of the death scenes. Natalie quickly returns home and sees a small box on the table.

Mr. Monk arrives at Natalie's house to check on her and sees Natalie crying on the staircase. Mr. Monk goes on about how he can't work when she's in this condition, when Natalie shakily points at the box on the table. Mr. Monk walks over and opens the box. Inside he finds a personalized voodoo doll with Natalie's name enscribed on it. He looks it over to see if there is anything suspicious about it, but when he turns it over, the head falls off.

Natalie is thouroughly scared and does all things humanly possible to ensure that she won't be maimed in any way, from sleeping in the bathroom to throwing away all her knives and hedge clippers. Mr. Monk calls Reverend Jorgenson, the owner of a local voodoo shop, to come and "un-curse" Natalie. He prepares a special potion for Natalie to rub onto her neck, but in haste, Natalie drinks it on accident and get sent into an ambulence with Angeline. When Mr. Monk asks if he can accompany Natalie inside, Angeline says nervously that there's no room, so Mr. Monk rides behind the ambulence in Reverend Jorgenson's van.

On the way to the hospital, Mr. Monk and Reverend Jorgenson start to talk about the case. Reverend Jorgenson says that Angeline is a frequent customer and has bought about 6 or 7 voodoo dolls. Mr. Monk puts the pieces together and realizes that Angeline is the criminal. The rescue Natalie from the ambulence before Angeline gets a chance to harm her.

Plastic Bottles? Yeah Right

In class, Mr. Hughes was talking to us about the Kontiki, a boat designed by Norweigian Knut Haugland, who believed that people living in the primitive age could travel across bodies of water on rafts, and therefore tested this theory by sailing his boat across the Pacific.Then a few other people got an idea.

This is no joke. The Plastiki, designed by adventure ecologist David de Rothschild, is a boat made mainly out of 12,000 gas-filled recycled plastic bottles. That might sound dumb (it did to me, until I heard what kinds of stuff they have on), but check out the high-tech gear they have on this baby:

- solar panels
- pinwheels
- bicycle for extra power

- hydroponic veggie garden

The crew includes:
- Jo Royle, Skipper

- Mathew Gray, Coodinator

- David de Rothschild, Founder

They will be sailing together from San Fransisco, California to Sydney, Australia. But that isn't their goal. Their goal is to renew the awareness of plastic waste being dumped into the oceans, something that has been a problem for years but has slowly slipped from our attention. Let's face it: nobody check these blogs anymore. You know why? Because we haven't (1) gotten much homework or (2) don't know what to post.

Some of you guys do view the blogs, but what's the difference if you don't comment? I have to admit this. I'm getting a bit antsy. I post stuff, it sits there for a few weeks, and around the point where I stop checking for comments, I get one. But all it says is "nice job" or "that was random". So can you guys do me a favor? If you view the page, can you comment on at least 1 thing? That brings me to another thing: Reactions.

I put the reactions there to see what the...well...reactions were from viewers. But nowadays, the closest thing I get to comments when I ask for them is a reaction. That's nice, but I would like some words. :)

Oh yeah. Please check out the CAR TALK - NPR page. (especially the adults.) If you are from the states and listened to the radio on weekends while you were there, you should get a kick out of this. :)
